MARGAO
A 15-day football coaching camp conducted by Salcete Football Club concluded at Sinquetim Ground, Navelim. Altogether 123 participants, both boys and girls, attended the camp.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Rev Fr Gabriel Coutinho, parish priest of Rosary Church, Navelim and Principal of Rosary College, Navelim, said that sport makes a person mentally and physically fit. He stressed on a balanced approach in academics and sports. He said camps hone talent of youngsters and also improve the standard of the sport in the state.
Armando Colaco, Climax Lawrence, Micdonio Rebello, Oswaldo D'Costa, Donald Rocha, Diego Diniz, Mabel Mascarenhas and Salu Fernandes trained the children. Among those who graced the ocassion were Padma Shri Brahamanand Sankhwalkar, Mauricio Afonso, former India captain, and Alvito D'Cunha, former East Bengal footballer, Avertano Furtado, former Fisheries Minister and MRF footballer, Antonio Pango, vice-president of GFA, Sunil Naik of Salcete Football Club and Joe Dias, former president of Salcete Football Club. Alberto Colaco, former general secretary of All India Football Federation, compered the function.
