Inaugurating the Summer Football Camp at SAG Ground, Benaulim on Monday, former India football captain Brahmanand Shankhwalkar said that one should make sports and physical activities a part of their lifestyle to make the State a healthy one.
He lauded Warren Alemao, the camp organiser, for his bid to create awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. “In the current situation, it is important that everyone should stay healthy by walking, or jogging. It will improve our immunity levels and creating awareness is the sole reason for this," he said.
"The vital part of the camp are the coaches. They are monitoring the kids and looking after them for every need. The players receive lessons about football and participate in all kinds of drills in collaboration with the coaches. Also they can enjoy matches and tournaments so they can use all the new stuff that has been taught."
He asked the parents to send their wards to the summer camps and encourage them to have physical activity instead of spending time with their phones.
Speaking on the occasion, Antonio Pango, senior vice-president of the Goa Football Association, congratulated Alemao for taking the initiative of organising the camp to recognise and nurture the talent at the village level.
"It is a football development project by Warren Alemao with a vision to reach the community through the sport. He aims to provide a platform for all aspiring football players in the neighbouring villages and a channel to develop and perform at a professional level," Pango said.
Warren Alemao, the main organiser of the camp, said that young and teenage football players can have a lot of benefits by participating in a football camp at an early age. Camps can give them the tools to develop and succeed, not only physically, but also mentally and socially as they grow.
"Engaging in football games will help them develop friendships that maybe will last for a long time and also they will be able to communicate with different people from an early age. Furthermore, in the camps, players have to follow coaches’ instructions and in this way, they can be disciplined," Alemao said.
