Belgaum United Football Academy got the better of Sesa Football Academy 4-3 in the opening match of the Vedanta U-15 Youth Cup held at Ella ground, on Saturday.
Klyne Godinho of Sesa FA set the tone, scoring the opener in the 14th minute. However, Nikesh Khoirom's corner for Sesa hit the goal post. Johonsons of Sesa soon extended their lead to 2-0 with a splendid free-kick in the 15th minute.
Belgaum United fought back, as Chesman Khan converted a penalty in the 26th minute. Despite chances from both sides, the first half ended 2-1 in favor of Sesa FA.
The second half began with a bang, as Jogesh Singh of Belgaum United equalized in the 39th minute. The game swayed back and forth, with missed opportunities and wide shots.
Anmesh Majik, a substitute, swiftly responded with a goal for Sesa, leveling the score at 3-3 in the 43rd minute.
In a nail-biting finish, Belgaum United seized the lead in the 44th minute securing a 4-3 victory in a match.
In the second match, South Goa United Club of Sports & Culture triumphed against Dempo SC 4-1.
The first half saw South Goa United create numerous opportunities with Jayden Pinto breaking the deadlock in the seventh minute and completing a brace in the 13th minute. The first half concluded with South Goa United leading 2-0.
In the second half, Walton Fernandes struck the third goal for South Goa United in the 30th minute, while Casvino Fernandes added a fourth in the 35th minute for the South Goa team. Dempo SC made a late comeback effort in the 43rd minute when Kiaan Araujo found the net, but it wasn't enough to change the outcome.
