Chinchinim's first-ever futsal ground, developed under the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) Scheme, was inaugurated by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat in the presence of Velim MLA Cruz Silva, providing the village with a dedicated facility for the fast-growing sport.
Speaking at the function, Cruz Silva said the project reflects the objective of the MLA LAD Scheme to create infrastructure that directly benefits local communities. He said the futsal ground would provide improved sporting facilities for youngsters while strengthening Chinchinim's long-standing football culture.
Silva also acknowledged the support of PWD Minister Digambar Kamat in facilitating the project and said efforts would continue to improve sports infrastructure across the Velim constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Kamat described Chinchinim as a village with a rich footballing heritage and said the new facility would help nurture future talent.
"This is a village known for football. I congratulate the footballers of Chinchinim on getting this excellent futsal ground," Kamat said.
Former footballers from Chinchinim who had represented the village with distinction at the national and international levels were felicitated during the programme for their contribution to the sport.
The inauguration was attended by panchayat members, sports administrators, club officials, football enthusiasts and local residents.
Separately, Cruz Silva reiterated his commitment to strengthening football in the Velim constituency by supporting the development of sports infrastructure and encouraging the organisation of football competitions.
