Basketball coach Sandeep Warlikar has complained about alleged administrative irregularities at Sports Authority of Goa to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is also the president of SAG.
Warlikar, who works for the SAG, himself, has raised strong objection to what he claims are ‘biased, non-transparent and unfair direct recruitment’ practices, while also requesting the CM to consider elevation of his position to Joint-Director, Coaching.
Warlikar, who has also sent a copy of the letter to the Sports Minister among others including this media organisation, accuses SAG executive director V M Prabhudesai, of ‘demoralising, suppressing and having hidden agenda’.
Warlikar highlights direct recruitment as the problem he has faced and claims that “many recruitments and promotions have been done on the mere whips (sic) and fancies and without a proper Administrative structure, post creation and recruitment rules.”
Asked for his reaction, Prabhudesai questioned Warlikar’s recruitment in first place and his expectation of officer’s post despite knowing that the coach’s role is out on the field. Prabhudesai said: “He is the beneficiary himself of direct recruitment... he needs to introspect how he has come into the SAG fold and what his performance has been.
“In fact, it was the same executive director, who had encouraged him to go for the Masters in Sports degree so that he could come back and apply his knowledge to develop players and train the junior basketball coaches. Now with that knowledge, why is he after an office job?”
Warlikar cites an incident from September 2016 in the letter where he says, “the present executive director, within a week of his return to the SAG, initiated to shunt me out of the SAG head office and transfer me back to coaching duties in spite of me performing exceedingly well over the last 14 months as Jt-Coordinator (coaching).”
When asked about this accusation, Prabhudesai replied: “At this particular point of time, the office of the then Sports Minister had received a number of complains from different coaches about he ‘bossing’ over them. Hence, the minister ordered
the action.”
The long-serving sports administrator also suggested that Warlikar has an “indifferent” relationship with State basketball fraternity.
