Frazier, Wayne score in 2-0 win at Navelim, take league tally to four points

Backed by the home crowd, United Club of Telaulim started the game on an aggressive note with their forwards pressing for a goal right from the kick-off as striker Clinton Niasso unleashed a stiff shot after picking up the ball from Chadwick Furtado but the former missed the target narrowly. In the 35th minute, United Club of Telaulim had a golden chance when Clinton Niasso found Sclache Furtado but the latter’s smart shot was well collected by Curtorim Goalkeeper Joseph Monteiro at second attempt.
Curtorim Gymkhana’s persistence was rewarded in the injury time of the opening session. Following a flag kick taken by Suraj Naik, Nelson Fernandes’ header deflected from a rival defender and the ball travelled to stopper back Frazier Rogtao, who hammered it past UCT goalkeeper Ozen Silva.
Changing over, Alex Dias’ Curtorim continued to employ the 4-1-4-1 formation and enjoyed the domination over their opponents with their young brigade. Egged on by their fans, UCT then threw the kitchen sink at Curtorim Gymkhana but to no avail while their oppoents threatened the rival goal repeatedly.
However, it was UCT who took control of the match in the first 10 minutes after the re-start, creating a couple of scoring chances. However their forwards frittered away from close range, Clinton Niasso being the worst offender as he alone muffed three sitters. Then, Agnelo Colaco shot wide from close range off a Clinton Niasso
through pass.
Curtorim Gymkhana nearly made it 2-0 but UCT goalkeeper Ozen Silva came to his side’s rescue by plaming away Cliff Barneto’s rasping shot. The final blow for United Club of Telaulim came in the 69th minute when winger Wayne Rodrigues got his name on the scorersheet. Wayne picked up the ball from a colleague and hit a scufffed shot that looped beyond Ozen Silva to cap a satisfying day for the Curtorim team.
With this win, Curtorim Gymkhana took their tally to 4 points from two matches while United Club of Tealulim suffered their second defeat and have 1 point from
3 matches.
