Fr Agnelo Youth SC Paroda stormed into the finals of the Guirdolim Panchayat Cup beating United Sports Club of Seraulim 4-1 at Chandor Church complex ground on Friday.
The match started with both teams trying to hold possession and the game was confined to the midfield for the most part of the first session. In the second session, Paroda came out all guns blazing and in the 38th minute, a mistake by the Seraulim keeper allowed Velroy Carvalho to score with an easy tap-in.
In the 49th minute, a penalty was awarded to Seraulim and Senatro Fernandes made no mistake from the spot to level the scores, 1-1. Thereafter Paroda started putting pressure on the Seraulim defence and in the 49th minute, Selton Fernandes scored with a placement, 2-1.
Velroy completed his brace with a header in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1 for Paroda. Selton drove the final nail in the Seraulim coffin by scoring his second goal of the match in the 61st minute. Paroda will now meet Dicarpale SC in the finals on February 26. Darwin Cardoso, GS of Guirdolim Club, presented the Man of the Match award to Velroy Carvalho of Fr Agnelo YSC.
State judo contingent leaves for Chennai
MARGAO: A contingent of the Goa Judo Association of 33 judokas and six officials left for Sub Junior and Cadets National Judo Championship in Chennai. The team includes Khelo India medallists Ima Patil and Kajal Bhosle.

Goan boxer Shagun wins Khelo c'ship bronze
PANAJI: Goa's sub-junior girl boxer Shagun Shinde won a bronze medal at the just concluded Khelo India Sub-junior & Elite Women Open Championship at Rohtak, Haryana. Shagun beat three tough opponents before losing to a Haryana boxer and the eventual champion in the 42kg category.
There were three sub-junior participants from Goa in the championship. While Divya lost in the pre-quarters, Chandrika Pujari reached the quarterfinals but was forced to give a walkover due to illness. Both Shagun and Chandrika are Sub-junior Nationals runners-up, based at SAI Women's Hostel, Peddem and presently train under coach Arif. They will participate in the Nomojo Boxing Tournament at Porvorim on February 25.
State fencing championship on Feb 25, 26
PANAJI: The Goa Fencing Association will conduct the State Level Fencing Championship (boys, girls, men and women) on February 25 and 26 at Durgawadi Basketball Court, Taleigao. The State Championship will be held in senior, junior and sub-junior categories. Interested players need to do their registration for the championship before February 20.
