At a meeting of the GFA Women's Sub-Committee which was presided over by its president, Elvis Gomes, the clauses in a draft MOU were discussed and agreed upon.
GFA will aid the German non-profit organisation in its broad objective of "using football as a tool to advocate for a world in which girls and women can do sports without being discriminated against for any reason". This is not the first time GFA has collaborated with Discover Football. Indian NGO Tibetian Women's Football -- a partner of the German network -- had organised two matches in the State last year to spread the cause. Continuing their association, the GFA and Discover Football will organise an all-India invitational tournament for women comprising of eight teams at Duler Stadium, Mapusa from August 5 to 13.
Welcoming Johanna Small from Discover Football, Gomes said that the partnership would go a long way in filling the missing gap in the development and promotion of football by making it inclusive for women as well. He further said that this tournament would be used as a precursor to the proposed league for women, which shall be held from the month of October in the State. The event will also include football camps for junior girls and workshops for various women groups along with cultural programmes.
