Maina Sports Club drubbed St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda 3-0 to enter the semis of the 13th Bebe Costa Memorial Inter Village football tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at St. John the Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Friday.

The first session was evenly balanced with both the teams doing the attacking, trying to find the goals. The Assolda lads should have opened the scoring but Vikey Ferrnandes could not find his way past rival goalkeeper Johnson Bhogot in the 19th minute. Maina survived a scare and surged ahead two minutes before the lemon break when striker Milarges Fernandes found winger Joliston Rebello in the box who slotted into the nylons with a powerful right footer. After the change of ends, Maina doubled their advantage in the 57th minute when striker James Fernandes -- receiving a pass from Peter Fernandes -- struck a low shot past Assolda goalkeeper Johnson Fernandes. The goal took the fight out of the Assolda players and the Maina team made it a comfortable 3-0 in the dying minutes of the match when substitute Anthony Cardozo capitalised on an error by Agnes Vaz to net the final goal.
Chandor Club made short work of United club of Nerul 4-1 to move into the quarter- finals of the 20th Our Lady of Merces 8 a side inter village football tournament at Church ground, Chinchinim on Friday.

MARGAOChandor took the lead in the 4th minute when Jeston Martins headed home off a Lui Noronha chip. In the 15th minute, Akram Yadav made it 2-0 off a through pass from Lui Noronha. Stung by the double blows, Nerul pressed hard for the reducer and Anthony Fernandes managed to reduce the margin. However, Deswil Fernandes made it 3-1 in the 42nd minute off a Jeston Martins assist.Daren Fernandes drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 46th minute.
