MARGAO: Guardian Angel SC Curchorem staged a sensational second-half comeback to overpower USC Seraulim 4-1 and secure a place in the final of the 35th Super Soccer Tournament at the St. John the Baptist Dando Panchayat Ground, Benaulim.
Organised by United Boys of Dando Colva, the semifinal witnessed USC Seraulim make a bright start as Jesus Ferrao broke the deadlock in the ninth minute, giving his side an early advantage. Seraulim defended resolutely and carried their 1-0 lead into the halftime interval.
Guardian Angel, however, emerged a transformed side after the break and turned the contest on its head with an impressive attacking display. Richard Fernandes levelled the scores in the 40th minute before Fhezer Gomes completed the comeback by putting Curchorem ahead in the 49th minute.
With the momentum firmly in their favour, Guardian Angel continued to dominate as Sheldon struck in the 54th minute and Reagan Costa added another two minutes later to wrap up a convincing 4-1 victory.
Fhezer Gomes, whose all-round performance inspired the turnaround, was adjudged Man of the Match. He received the award from international footballer Princeton Rebello of Betalbatim.
Guardian Angel SC Curchorem will now face UC Verna in the tournament final on August 2.
