Goan international football referee, Uvena Fernandes has been selected for state’s highest sports recognition in the form of Bakshi Bahaddar Jivabadada Kerkar Award. Uvena, who hails from Palolem-Canacona, has been honoured for ‘contribution in the field of Football’ says the intimation letter from Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, V M Prabhudesai. The award will be presented by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on January 25 at NIO Auditorium, Dona Paula. Uvena, who is serving as an officer in Indian Air force and posted in Ambala-Punjab, has assured to remain present to receive the award.
