Khushboo’s goal hands Models CRC Cup

Khushboo Sauthantikar scored the all-important goal as Models-Panaji carved out a hard-fought solitary goal win against Albert Developers Sports Club-Merces in the finals of the first edition of all-Goa CRC Women’s Cup football tournament on Wednesday. It was organised by Club Reccreativo E Cultural Club de Chinchinim at CRC ground, Chinchinim.  

Khushboo scored the lone goal of the match in the 10th minute of the 60-minute encounter to help Models to clinch the title off Cynthia Lobo’s assist.   

 Models received the champion’s trophy and a cheque of Rs 30,000, while the runners-up prize of Rs 20,000 went to Albert Developers Sports Club. Additional Director of Panchayats (South Goa) Florina Collasso e Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Valentino Baretto, Deputy Sarpanch VP Chinchinim Dessua; Schubert Furtado, GFA vice-president (South Goa); GFA Executive members Anju Albuqurque, Anthony Pango and Arnaldo Costa. In his welcome speech, President of CRC Cyril Leitao revealed that the women’s tournament will give more enthusiasm to girls and more importantly, promote equality among everyone. Speaking further, he added that their main motive was to encourage girls to come out and play. “There were upsets and healthy competition in the tournament, which made it successful,” he added.  

Following individual prizes were awarded: Best player of the finals: Sujita Murgaokar (Models); Best striker of the finals: Khushboo Sauthantikar (Models);  Best midfielder of the finals: Sujita Murgaokar (Models); Best defender of the finals: Sneha Fernandes (Albert Developers); Best goalkeeper of the finals: Annette D’Costa (Albert Developers); Farewell goal of the finals: Khushboo Sauthantikar (Models); Most energetic player of the tournament: Avia Vas (Albert Developers).
