Local Fishermen and villagers rally against pollution at Velsao Beach

Velsao:  With water bodies under threat in the village, a group of traditional fishermen gathered at Velsao Beach today to protest against severe pollution in the sea caused by two pipelines allegedly originating from factories situated nearby. The fishermen, with concerned villagers, have raised serious concerns about the presence of ammonia traces in both the sea and a nearby lake, which they believe is linked to the industrial discharges.

"Our livelihoods depend on clean, healthy waters," said one of the fishermen. "The pollution from these pipelines is killing the fish and making it unsafe for us to work."

Villagers reported numerous instances of detecting ammonia in the water, which poses significant risks to marine life and human health. The community has been grappling with these issues for several months.

"We have repeatedly brought this to the attention of the authorities, but no effective action has been taken," said a local villager.

The locals demanded immediate steps to stop pollution and conduct thorough investigations. The protesters also emphasised the need for regular water quality monitoring and stricter industrial waste disposal regulations.
