Match officials give First Division tie a miss

Disappointment was writ large on the faces of football fans as the promised GFA First Division league match at Government Village School playground, Ambelim on Wednesday turned out to be a damp squib simply because match commissioner and fourth official played a truant. Officials from both the teams donned the duty of fourth officials.

Sources said that match commissioner is yet to receive the intimation from GFA about the match while fourth official Manesh Olveira’s name figured on the player list of Immaculate Conception Sports Club. Soccer enthusiasts who turned at the ground to witness the match termed the whole episode as an example of non-professionalism. “It is not only a bad advertisement for the Goan football,” they remarked.

At Goa Velha, Curtorim Gym and Goa Velha played out a 1-1 draw. Michael Dias scored for Goa Velha in the 35th min. Wilson Fernandes levelled in the 42nd minute.
