ONGC started well and maintained a good tempo as they closed out the first set 25-21. After losing the opening set, South Central Railways came back hard and levelled the game, winning the second stanza 25-19.
In the next set, ONGC showcased the wherewithal to pull things back and wrapped the set 25-22 as Subha Rao, the former India spiker, smashed into the Railways half to take a 2-1 lead. From thereon, ONGC didn’t look like losing the tie as they closed out the game, winning the fourth set 25-19.
Earlier in the tournament, which is being played under floodlights, Punjab Police demolished Haryana Police 25-19, 30-28, 25-30. Gurinder Singh was in terrific form and proved unstoppable in front of the net. He was well supported by Satpal Singh and Girinder.
