Doyal Alves scored twice in stoppage time as Panjim Footballers beat Velsao Sports and Cultural Club 2-0 in the GFA Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Monday.
Doyal scored in 90+2’ and 90+3’ minutes with Jonas Colaco and Nicklas providing the assists. With the three points, Panjim Footballers moved to eight points from six games while Velsao stay on seven points from seven games.
Panjim started brightly, maintaining ball possession and making timely moves to create chances. But Velsao were first to create real chances through Vinoth, however, the lad failed to make any impact. At the other end, Panjim Footballers failed to capitalize on their move through Jonas Colaco, where he failed to direct a header on goal. While Panjim missed their chance, at the other end, Velsao SCC had their moment too. It was Sheldon Pereira who on getting the ball ran on the right flank and played a brilliant pass to Imran Khan, who beautifully controlled the ball before striking from the edge of the box. But the shot narrowly missed the mark.
In the second half, nothing changed. Both teams created chances, and both wasted too. For Velsao it was Imran who squandered the chances. Finally, just when it looked like the match was heading for a draw, Panjim struck in stoppage time. intercepting a pass in the midfield Jonas made a fine run on the right and upon entering at the edge of the box, played a square pass to Doyal Alves, who was unmarked. The latter controlled the ball and calmly hit past the rival keeper to make it 1-0. Minutes later, Panjim scored another goal and this time it was Nicklas who provided a fine assist from the side. Doyal made no mistake to score his second to seal three points for the team.
