Parish Youth Nuvem beat Navelim Villagers Union 5-4 via tie-breaker to storm into the semi-finals of 28th St Rock’s Super Soccer tournament held at the Calata grounds, Majorda on Wednesday.
The quarter-finals saw both teams play an action-packed match with the full time score ending in an highscoring 3-3 draw, before Nuvem prevailed in the impending shoot-out.
In an evenly contested match both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and Navelim Viilagers Union broke the deadlock in the 6th minute when Mizio Peixoto found the net with a powerful shot that beat the rival goalkeeper all ends up. Stung by that early reversal, Parish Youth went into attacking mode and in the 10th minute Hayson Velho neutralized the lead. Crossing over, Parish Youth struck rhythm and called the shots against the rival citadel and striker Ronny Fernandes who deceived the rival defender beat the goalkeeper with a low drive soon after resumption to regain the lead. Stephen Colaco punted the ball to the far corner of the net to give his team a 3-1 cushion. Navelim team managed to get back into the game when Alvito Colaco raced towards goal from midfield before finishing with an angled shot into the corner as the score moved to 3-2. They roared back into the game and made it 3-3 after Coven Lawrence dinked a beautiful ball past the Nuvem goalkeeper.
Nuvem had the last laugh in the tie-breaker. On Thursday, Margao SC will take on St Jose de Areal.
