Salgaocar FC recorded their biggest ever win as they handed United Club of Telaulim (UCT ) an 8-0 thrashing in their GFA Frist Division League at Rosary Grounds, Navelim on Monday. Salgaocar FC led 2-0 at the breather.
The highlight of the day was a triple strike by mercurcial striker Liston Colaco. Substutute Yamunarsab Pinjar scored a brace. Davendra Murgaonkar, Lalit Fariad and substutute Ronaldo Olveira all added a goal apiece as Salgaocar Colts turned in a rollicking performance.
At the start it looked like it might be an even contest with both the teams comfortable in posession. United Club of Telaulim were unlucky when Clinton Niasso’s well executed free kick brushed the Salgaocar goalkeeper Avanish Rao’s hands and rebounded into play.
Later, Clinton Niasso’s try kissed the cross bar much to the dismay of Tealulim supporters. After that scare, Salgaocar Colts soon switched gears as they pressed and harried United Club of Telaulim, forcing them to concede possession in their own half.
And the opener duly arrived in the 27th minute when their was misunderstanding between Telaulim defender and goalkeeper and striker Devendra Murgaokar gently pushed the ball in.
The second came seven minutes later on the counter with Liston Colaco moving up to free who in turn pulled it back for midfielder Lalit Fariad to slot it in.
Post resumption, Salgaocar Colts enjoyed the total domination and pushed their opponents on the back foot throughout the second half. Liston Colaco converted the spot-kick to send the United Club of Telaulim goalkeeper Ozen Silva the wrong way after Davendra Murgaonkar was brought down by Ozen Silva inside the penalty box and referee Jose Dias cautioned him with yellow.
The fourth goal came in the 63rd minute when Liston Colaco’s thundering strike caught the rival goalkeeper napping to give his team a 4-0 cushion.
It then made little difference to Salgaocar Colts’ momentum and they scored the fifth goal in the 66th minute when Pinjari beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Pinjari then made it half a dozen with a crisp finish off Lalit in the 81st minute and fired it past a helpless Ozen Silva for his brace .Ronaldo Olveira inflated the tally in the 86th minute to give his team 7-0 cushion off Liston Colaco pass.
Liston Colaco put the exclamation mark on the score line to register his hat-trick at the stroke of final whistle.
With this win, Salgaocar Colts took their tally to 42 points from 18 matches while United Club of Telaulim stay with 26 points from 19 matches.
In a post-match chat, an elated Anthony Levino Pereira coach of Salgaocar was all praise for his boys.
“The boys did all the hardwork and it was a good job. This win will motivate us further to go for the title,” said Pereira.
At DYSA grounds, Curtorim, Curtorim Gymkhana rallied from behind to hold Goa Police Sports Club 1-1 in their penultimate round match. There was no score at lemon-break.
Both the teams started the match on a cautious note and took time to settle down. Midfielders created equal number of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from hand-shaking distance.
Changing over, Goa Police shifted their gears and fired a couple shots against the rival goal. Goa Police’s breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Abdul Khan punished the rival goalkeeper with a fine shot.
Stung by that reversal and egged by the home crowds, Curtorim Gymkhana went into attacking mode and in the 72nd minute Jesmon Soares neutralised the lead.
