In a dominant all-round performance at the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, Goa women’s cricket team outclassed Assam by 71 runs in the elite group match played at RDCA Ground, Raipur, on Sunday.
The emphatic win not only strengthened Goa’s position in the tournament but also brought immense pride to Dabolim, with 17-year-old Harshita Yadav emerging as the standout performer.
Batting first, Goa’s innings was anchored by a remarkable partnership between Harshita Yadav and Purvaja Verlekar. Showing maturity well beyond her years, Harshita played a composed yet aggressive knock of 58 runs off 46 deliveries, laced with nine boundaries. She displayed excellent timing and placement, rotating the strike intelligently while punishing loose balls with confidence.
Complementing her at the other end, opener Purvaja played a blistering innings of 56 runs off just 40 balls, striking three towering sixes that kept the scoreboard ticking rapidly. Together, the duo set a strong foundation for Goa, guiding the team to a commanding total of 166 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a stiff target, Assam’s batting line-up faltered under pressure as Goa’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding restricted them to just 95 runs before being bowled out. The 71-run victory reflected Goa’s growing dominance in the tournament and the balance between its experienced and young players.
For her brilliant batting performance and match-winning contribution, Harshita Yadav was adjudged the Player of the Match and awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Her composed approach and fearless shot selection earned widespread praise from the coaching staff and teammates alike.
