While most sports grounds across Goa come alive with activity on Sunday mornings, the government-funded Davorlim ground paints a starkly different picture ” deserted, with overgrown grass, and littered with waste.
Intended to be a hub for local sports, the ground now lies in a state of neglect. The football field is uneven and strewn with garbage, deterring players and residents from using the facility.
What has drawn the most concern, however, is the deplorable state of the public restrooms and amenities on the premises. “It is in a very bad state,” said one resident. “The toilets were unclean and not properly maintained. The dressing room is also in a complete mess and needs thorough cleaning. The benches are also broken.”
Locals have blamed the Davorlim Panchayat for the lack of upkeep. “The ground is covered with bushes, and the panchayat has not taken any steps to clear them,” said Laxmidas Mangueskar, a Davorlim resident.
He also criticised the panchayat's inaction, saying, “They have been completely unresponsive to our complaints. We demand that the authorities take urgent action in this regard.”
Residents are now calling on the local panchayat to take responsibility and carry out immediate maintenance, ensuring the facility serves its original purpose as a community sports ground.
