Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Monday inaugurated the Lawn Tennis Courts at the Open Sports Complex of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
Speaking at the function, Sports Minister stressed on development of sports infrastructure in the State to facilitate sportspersons to compete and excel at the national and international levels.
Stressing the importance of tennis, the Sports Minister said more and more sporting events should be organised at all levels. He said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has been taking a keen interest in promoting sports, which can be seen from the regular interaction he holds with various disciplines he added.
Gaude asserted that the government’s thrust on sports has helped unearth hidden talents, and the construction of the new tennis court will give the sports person to showcase their talent. He also disclosed that Fatorda will be one of the venues for the tennis tournament for the National Games.
Earlier, Margao MLA Digamber Kamat urged the sports minister to complete the swimming pool works in the first week of March and also hailed the quality works of the tennis court.
