It may be recalled that the Salcete Zone final between Varca and Tilamola was postponed as the latter did not received the intimation from GFA.
However, it was Varca’s opponents Tilamola who took the lead in the 15th minute to test the spirit and commitment of Varca. In the 15th minute, striker Macklon Colaco ‘s thumping header gave no chance to Varca goalkeeper Muhammed Shaikh.Spurred by the lead, Tilamola upped their ante and tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Assli Carvalho came close in doubling the lead but his try was thwarted by rival’s Quelon Alemao.
At the other end, Varca had couple of scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from close range. Quelon alone muffed three sitters for Varca. Tilamola doubled the lead in the injury time of the first half when striker Assli picked up the ball from Reston Carvalho and the former unleashed a stiff shot that crashed into the net. Varca began in dominant fashion and were on the front foot right from the second half and their superitority bore fruit when Quelon converted the spot-kick after rival defender brought down Xavier D’Silva inside the penalty box in the 52nd minute.
The remaining period was no different as Varca kept up the pressure over Tilamola who seemed to have run out of ideas. In the 68th minute, Quelon of Varca and Antonio Carvalho were ejected by referee Sharad Naik for violent conduct. Cilve Colaco neutralized the lead in the 73rd minute when Jhonas D’Costa sent a through pass to Cilve Colaco who made no mistake from inside the box as he powered it past the rival goalkeeper Selvino Costa.
Varca Sports Club weren’t done yet as they slammed three more goals to put the result beyond any doubt. Jhonas D’Costa added his name on the scorers’ list in the 80th minute. Substitute Joel Fernandes struck twice in the 82nd and 85th minute to seal victory.
