India all-rounder Shikha Pandey and team physiotherapist Tracy Fernandes met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at the Assembly complex in Porvorim on Friday afternoon.
Parrikar praised the fine performance by the Goan duo in the team's run-up to the finals of the ICC Women's World Cup in England recently.
Shikha appreciated the gesture of the Chief Minister in ‘recognition of the efforts of the sportspersons'. The 28-year-old Pilerne-based, Shikha feels that Goan women's cricket level is sure to rise up to a higher level now.
"Although Goa is famous for football, there are many girls coming forward to play cricket. I don't think the opportunities are less. There is a lot of support (for cricket). One thing very good about Goa is that there is no differentiation between girls and boys. People are very open-minded. (That's why) I believe, will get women's cricket to a higher pedestal," said Shikha.
Having worked hard to keep the ‘Women in Blue' fit on the lengthy England tour, experienced physiotherapist Tracy says: "I was honoured to meet the Chief Minister especially in his busy schedule. He took time out just to meet us."
