The culmination of the 23rd Ave Maria Athletic & Walkers Club’s Athletic & Football Summer Camp marked a celebratory event on Monday at the St John the Baptist Church ground in Monte, Benaulim.
The camp's finale featured an exhibition football match, showcasing the talents and progress of the trainees in front of parents and well-wishers of the club. Following the match, a ceremony honouring the participants and distributing prizes was held, bringing the successful camp to a close after its commencement on April 11.
The concluding ceremony welcomed guests, with Goa's marathon runner Priti Lobo serving as the chief guest, accompanied by her husband Captain Marlon Lobo, who graced the occasion as the guest of honour. Lobo commended the displayed skills and efforts of the trainees, expressing delight at their improvement in speed and football abilities.
Meanwhile, the parents lauded Antonio Mascarenhas, president of the club, for his role in nurturing the development of their children. Club executive, Joseph L R Vaz, encouraged the trainees to pursue football seriously, emphasizing the ample opportunities available, albeit lamenting the declining representation of Goan talent at the national level.
