Fr Agnel YC Paroda made short work of Cuncolim Union 4-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 40th Sao Jose Areal Panchayat Cup at Padribhat Sao Jose de Areal ground on Saturday. Fr Agnel's Reagan Costa netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 7th, 14th and 38th minutes. Reston Simoes found the fourth goal for Fr Agnel in the 60th minute while Thushar Gaonkar pulled a goal back for Cuncolim in the 60th minute. Reagan Costa of Fr Agnel was named Man of the Match. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by village Sarpanch Linda Fernandes in the presence of other Panchayat members.
Damodar HSS Zone U-19 football champions
Damodar Higher Secondary School, Gudi-Paroda emerged champs of the Zone IV U-19 boys inter-higher secondary football tournament after defeating Guardian Angel HSS, Curchorem by a solitary goal, organised by DSYA, at Pontemol Figueiredo ground, Curchorem. The all-important goal was scored by Likson Rebello off a pass from by Gerito Fernandes in the second session of the match. The Zone IV winners Damodar HSS will now meet Zone III winners in the South District final.
Goan pair win int'l beach volleyball title
Goan beach volleyball pair of Rama Dhawaskar and Nitin Sawant won the CAVA Beach Volleyball Tour at Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. The duo representing India defeated last year's champions Ismail Sajid and Ashfag Adam of Maldives 21-19, 21-14 in the finals of the tournament, organised by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA).
Pinto Memorial TT tourney inaugurated
PANAJI: The 5th Dr Filipe Pinto Memorial All Goa Table Tennis Tournament organised by ex-CCP deputy mayor Kabir Pinto Makhija in association with Clube Vasco da Gama was inaugurated on Saturday at the club premises. Kedar Naik, the Saligao MLA, was the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament. Ajit Roy, IAS, Secretary to the Chief Minister, was the guest of honour. Xacuntala Pinto Makhija, Kabir Pinto Makhija, Soraya Pinto Makhija, Francisco Noronha, Christopher Menezes, Chaitanya Tarcar and Carlos Noronha were also present. In the semifinals of Super Group, John Xavier & Vikas Prabhu beat Raj Lotlikar & Mohammed Mazar Shaikh 3-2. Prashant Kamat & Hemant Ramani beat Dr Brennan Tavares & Peter Cordeiro 3-0. In the Elite Group, Yusuf Shaikh & Rajendra Naik beat Sachin Soares & Rajendra Parsekar 3-1 while Amit Naik & Xisto Fernandes beat Joseph Sequeira & Sanjot Sankalp by an identical margin.
