MARGAO
Holy Cross Vaddie edged out Dados Boys 3-0 on penalties to reach the semifinals of the inter-ward football tournament, organised by V P Cana Benaulim, in a nail-biting encounter at the Vaddie ground, Benaulim.
The first half belonged to Holy Cross, with Jayden and Ash controlling the midfield. However, despite their dominance, the strikers failed to capitalise on scoring opportunities. The second half witnessed a more balanced display, with both teams fighting tooth and nail for the win. Dados Boys upped the ante in the dying minutes, with Samuel and Kane leading the charge. Nevertheless, Ashton's resolute Holy Cross defense stood firm and denied them a breakthrough.
With the score locked in a stalemate after regulation time, the match went into a penalty shoot-out. Holy Cross' composure from the spot proved decisive. Kayden, Maxwell, and Sam all converted their penalties, while their goalkeeper Vhelan emerged as the hero, saving all three penalties taken by Dados Boys.
Ashton's commanding defensive performance throughout the match earned him a well-deserved man of the match award.
