MARGAO: St. Cruz Society Club of Poitomaddo Cuncolim defeated Chandor Club 1-0 to secure a spot in the semifinals of the 43rd Gold Silver Rolling Trophy, organized by Navelim Sporting at Rosary Ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
Cruz Society had early opportunities to score in the 4th and 5th minutes but failed to capitalize, while Vitorino's powerful shot for Chandor narrowly missed the target in the 8th minute. The match's lone goal came in the 12th minute from Dylan Carvalho of St. Cruz Society, giving Cuncolim the lead.
In the 20th minute, Vinod Velip's strong ground shot was a close call for Chandor, and later, a counterattack from Vitorino also went off target. As the second half unfolded, Daulat Dessai of Cuncolim made several attempts to extend the lead, but his efforts were thwarted by Chandor defender Mark Fernandes in the 66th minute. A diagonal shot from Sunny Fernandes of Chandor was cleared safely by the Cuncolim goalkeeper in the 39th minute.
Cruz Society continued to press, with Viraj Velip unleashing a powerful shot in the 48th minute that was expertly saved by Mascarenhas. The match concluded with Cuncolim securing their hard-fought victory.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Dylan Carvalho by Edwin Cipriu Cardozo, ZP Member.
