Freedom fighter Raghunath Mahadev Salunke, who worked towards the cause of Goa’s Liberation, was born on January 20, 1924, in Pune, Maharashtra. He was the son of Mahadev Salunke. His legacy is preserved and showcased at the Sinquerim-based Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa “ The Land, The Struggle, The People.
Educated in Marathi up to the middle school exam level, Salunke worked in the service sector. With a zeal to fight for freedom from the colonisers, he joined the Goa Liberation Movement. On October 2, 1955, he entered Goa, crossing the border at Banda, and participated in the Satyagraha activities there. The Portuguese police, however, captured him and had him beaten.
