Earlier this week, men from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) swooped down on some locations in Ponda ostensibly in raids related to associates of the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI) outfit.
The raids themselves weren't intriguing. However, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's reaction to these raids, was."The NIA raids on those associated with the banned PFI are very necessary," Sawant had thundered and even suggested that more will be coming.
The belligerence was telling from his facial expression and squirmy body language. Expected, when elections are on in Ponda and his own Sanquelim town, a rather predictable script with the favourite whipping boys -- the Muslim community getting the stick.
