The Nationalist Congress Party has come down heavily on the Defence Minister and the commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji saying that the two have been taking credit for services that were provided or initiated by the NCP when it was part of the erstwhile ruling dispensation in the State.

Senior vice president and spokesperson Trajano D’Mello pointed that the jetty inaugurated by the Defence Minister was planned, designed and tendered during the NCP Captain of Port Minister

Nilkant Halarnkar, when Rs 8.5 crore was transferred from Captain of Port to GSIDC. He said the jetty is inaugurated to show the people of Panaji, before the municipal election, that the Defence Minister has done something.

He pointed that for the last 20 years the Defence Minister is being elected from Panaji constituency

and every time he has the St Inez creek on his manifesto, but after the elections this issue is forgotten.

D'Mello said further that similarly the ongoing work at Santa Monica and the multi-parking facility were planned and begun during the tenure of NCP tourism minister Nilkant Halarnkar.

D'Mello said the Defence Minister now wants the Navy and Coast Guard in Goa to take the GSIDC as consultant for developing their jetties. He said this is a strategy to loot as the Defence Minister has been sidetracked in Delhi, where all defence deals are done without his consent and presence.

D'Mello said the Mirama-Dona Paula road is another issue that has been going on for too long. He said the chief minister had recently inspected the road and the progress of the same and expressed his absolute disgust at the condition of the road even before it is commissioned.
