Getting it straight beforehand

At Walking Tall, the wellness centre at Chowgule College,Chiropractor Dr Alison Bale greets you with a warm smile. ‘Investing in yourselfis the best investment you will ever make’, reads her smart business card.Interesting! By ‘investment’ Dr Alison means taking care of one’s body andgiving it time every day to stay fit for life.

One can definitely state, that the quality of health eventuallydetermines the quality of  life. “You can reduce your risks by taking careof yourself. A healthy person has increased chances of recovering from a majorillness,” she explains.

A lessor known branch of medicine in India, Chiropractictherapy, is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure that helps in physicalproblems like lower back pain, hip pain, neck pain, accidents and sport relatedinjuries. “Chiropractors can help with bulging or herniated discs relatedinjuries as well as spinal stenosis or sciatica and pregnant women sufferingfrom lower back pain,” she explains. Chiropractic therapy has evolved in theWest and is a regulatory practice there. It deals with non-specific back painand it is for everyone.

The goal of chiropractic is to get rid of pain andimprove your body’s wellbeing. However, chiropractic is also aboutwellness, not just symptom relief. To this end some people also seechiropractors to maintain or improve their fitness, general wellbeing andquality of life. In a number of studies people who receive regular chiropracticcare also take less medication, spend fewer days in hospital, and are moreactive compared with non-chiropractic groups.  “Remember “ only you cantake charge of your health,” says Dr Alison.
