A poor example

Most people would say he deserved it. The AC technician from Vasco who allegedly stripped before a minor girl was thrashed allegedly by Navy personnel and then handed over to the police. So bad was his condition that he had to be admitted to the Goa Medical College hospital in Bambolim for treatment. It so happened that the girl happened to be the daughter of a naval officer and the man was chased from Joggers park in Chicalim by naval personnel and then thrashed. He was later handed to the police. Incidences of violent mobs taking law into their own hands are common in India. There are several instances of thieves and rapists being thrashed by public. The most bizarre and extreme incident of mob revenge took place last year when a huge crowd broke into Dimpaur central jail dragged a suspected rapist out and lynched him. The anger against sexual violence against women is palpable and so is the rage against the Vasco man who stripped. But one does not expect men in uniform to behave in the same frenzied manner displayed by a mob. Naval personnel should have shown more restraint instead of taking the law into their own hands and by assaulting the man have set a poor example.
