LONDON

A Konkani song was presented at the 'Vishwa Hindi Divas 2023’ celebrated by the Indian Embassy in Ireland on Thursday.

Representatives of 23 states from India who are living in Ireland presented in their respective state languages.

Milla Hancock, the Community Lead of the Goan Community in Ireland and organiser of the Irish Goa Day Ireland, represented Goa and her mother tongue Konkani by singing ‘Channeache Rati’ (In a Moonlit Night) at the event in the Indian Embassy at Dublin. The song was widely appreciated by the audience.

Milla said the song was composed by Ulhas Buyao during the Goa Opinion Poll in 1967 in support of the anti-merger movement, while the lyrics were written by Uday Bhembre, who was also part of the anti-merger movement.

“It was an amazing day. I felt proud to be in the Indian Embassy and to sing in my own Konkani language in front so many people. At the same time, it was great to hear all other languages of India under one roof,’ said Milla.

“I thank the Indian Embassy for giving me this opportunity to be there and represent the Irish Goan Community.”
