MARGAO: Batora United prevailed over Fondegal Sports Club in a close encounter, winning 7-5 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in regulation time in the 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Sporting Club Virabhat at St. Alex Church ground, Curtorim.
Both teams displayed strong offense throughout the game, with Fondegal's Pritam Dhamaskar scoring twice and Shanon D'Silva adding another goal. Batora United countered with a brace from Greanwill Barreto and a goal by Austin Fernandes.
As the final whistle blew, the score remained tied at 3-3, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. Batora United proved to be the more clinical team from the spot, converting their penalties and securing their place in the quarter-finals.
Greanwill Barreto's impressive performance earned him the man of the match award, presented by Conceicao Castanha, treasurer of Sporting Club Virabhat.
