Free medical camp at Paliem

PANAJI: A free multi-speciality medical camp will be organised by United Cultural Association Paliem in association with Shri Sateri Devasthan on Saturday at 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at Sateri Mahamaya Mandap in Paliem. The camp will be held from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

The doctors at the camp include a physician, an ENT, a skin specialist, a opthalmologist, a child specialist, a gynecologist, a dentist and a orthopedic.

Konkani writers to be feted on Nov 25

PANAJI: Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) will be felicitating Konkani writers Fr Myron Jeson Barreto and Ives Tavares on November 25 at 4.30 pm at Mae Dos Pobres in Nuvem in presence of CCP Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes.  

Barreto had recently won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar and Tavares had created world record for his ‘Biblical Concordance’.  

Besides serving in the church of Nuvem and hailing from Sadolshe in Canacona, Barreto is the manager of the ‘New Age Printers’ in Verna and a regular contributor to bulletins, periodicals, magazines.  

He has published seven secular and nine religious books in Konkani and is co-editor of Goa Diocesan tri-monthly magazine, ‘VOMP’PI’ and is a member of the editorial team of ‘Gõycho Pormoll’ magazine.  

Tavares from Ilha de Rachol has written 12 tiatr and three novels. His tiatr and films are well acknowledged and bestowed with awards. He holds many records, including India’s World Record (Longest Book), World’s Records India (World’s Biggest Roman Konkani Biblical Concordance), India’s Book of Records (Thickest Book), Asia Book of Records (Thickest Book), Champion’s Book of Records (Longest Book), Universal Book Forum Records.  

Tavares has been felicitated by Universal Konkani Legend Award, Dalgado Konknni Akademi, Tiatr Academy Goa, Siolim Boats Festivals and Cultural Organisation, Salcete Tribul Forum, India’s Book of Records and other institutions.  

Carmel College inks MoU with Biodiversity Board

PANAJI: The Biodiversity Research Cell of Carmel College for Arts, Science and Commerce for Women recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Goa State Biodiversity Board.

The signatories Dr Sr Maria Lizanne AC and Dr Pradip Sarmokadam agreed to share their resources towards addressing the gaps in the understanding of the State’s biodiversity and collaborate for the cause of conservation and sustainable utilization of ’s the biological resources.

On this occasion, the Member Secretary of the Goa State Biodiversity Board also released a sanction order of grants for supporting research project on ‘Diversity, distribution and conservation concerns of Bats in Goa’ to be carried out by Dr Manoj Borkar and Pratiksha sail, faculty members in the Department of Zoology.

Free physiotherapy clinic inaugurated  

PANAJI: Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai on Monday inaugurated the second free physiotherapy clinic of Street Providence Trust in Quepem. Suchita Shirvaikar, the Chairperson of Quepem Municipal Council, graced the occasion. The physiotherapy clinic, located at HNo 330, Taliwada, Sirvoi, Quepem, will provide free physiotherapy to the physically challenged residents of Street Providence Shelter Homes. In addition, the poor, needy and impoverished in the nearby villages can also avail of the facility free of cost. A trained and qualified physiotherapist will provide sessions to increase mobility and well-being of those in need.
