Hospicio hospital was on Tuesday hoping that the designated contractor would collect the biomedical waste that has piled up its in backyard over the last couple of days.
Hospital officials, however, pointed out that the waste lying in the backyard has been autoclaved and stored behind for the contractor to lift it away.
A senior official said the biomedical wasted stacked behind the hospital is not Covid waste, but waste generated in the Hospicio building, which does not treat Covid patients.
“We are aware that the biomedical waste has piled up in the hospital backyard. We expect the contractor appointed by the Collector South to take care of the biomedical waste,” the official said.
To a question, the health official pointed out there’s not much Covid biomedical waste generated in the
South Goa district hospital, with only hardly 50 patients taking treatment there for the moment.
