Thirteen civil society organisations have joined hands to pay tributes to martyrs and Covid frontline warriors of the capital city on Diwali eve.
The event styled 'Deep Sandhya' is slated for Friday evening at the Martyrs Memorial at the historic Azad Maidan where eco-lamps (pontis made from cow dung and flour) will be lit.
Covid warriors of the Corporation of the City of Panaji and also volunterers who assisted others during the lockdown and also through the onslaught of the pandemic will also be honoured and gifted traditional Diwali sweets.
Among the organisations joining hands with Samraat Club for the event include all four Rotary Clubs from the capital city - - Panaji, Panjim Mid-Town, Panjim Riviera and Miramar.
Also, Goa State branch of Youth Hostels Association of India, Lions Club of Panjim, Giants Club of Panjim, Inner Wheel Club of Panaji, Rotaract Club of Panaji, Goa Red Cross, Ex Servicemen’s Association of Goa and Disability Rights Association of Goa are the other city organisations who have associated with the event.
Besides paying tribute to the martyrs, the event is also to express gratitude to those who serve Panaji.
Motivational speaker Pravin Sabnis, who is co-ordinating the event, said social distancing norms and safety protocols will be followed.
