Arpora p’yat halts construction on storm drain, site inspection on May 2

MAPUSA
In response to a complaint regarding unauthorised construction activity on Comunidade property, the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat has taken decisive action, directing a developer to cease operations immediately.

The panchayat has also summoned the developer for a site inspection scheduled for Thursday, May 2.

Sushma Nagvekar, Deputy Sarpanch of Arpora-Nagoa, issued a stern warning to the proprietor of KPD Developers, citing allegations of constructing a concrete slab over a storm water drain (nalla) without requisite approvals or No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from relevant authorities.

Under the provisions of the Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, the panchayat has issued a formal notice to the developer, invoking relevant sections to address the violation.

The urgency of the situation was further underscored by the recent intervention of the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF), which flagged the clandestine construction activity and demanded immediate intervention.

In a formal complaint addressed to authorities including the Chief Secretary and Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department (WRD), the CCF highlighted the unauthorised installation of a concrete slab over a crucial stormwater drain in Survey No 135/24 of the Arpora village.

The brazen nature of the construction, unfolding adjacent to the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat office, has sent shockwaves throughout the village, eliciting concerns from both citizens and environmentalists.

The blatant disregard for regulations and environmental integrity has prompted widespread dismay and calls for swift corrective action.

As the panchayat moves to address the violation, residents and environmentalists remain vigilant, emphasising the importance of upholding legal and environmental standards in developmental activities within the community.
