The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) president Viresh Borkar has filed a complaint with Cyber Crime over the circulation of a fake post on social media in which the party has been accused of receiving Rs 25 lakhs in donations.
In the post, a receipt has been attached wherein it is mentioned that one person has donated the amount for the awareness campaign on POGO. Borkar has demanded that penal action has to be initiated against the persons responsible for the same under section 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) and section 505(1)(B) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquillity).
The MLA has also suggested that since the act qualifies as a criminal offence, Sections 420, 467, 468, 417 and 120-B of IPC may also be applied wherever applicable in the case. The RGP president has also cited imposition of sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Further, Borkar has identified a group of individuals for actively circulating fake posts of counterfeit donation receipts. “These posts falsely claim that RG has received a donation of Rs 25 lakh from an individual. The receipts showcased in these posts are not only forged with incorrect addresses and fake signatures but are also crafted with intent to mislead the public and malign the reputation of RG,” Borkar states in his complaint.
Borkar has further pointed out that due to the false allegations made in the post, the reputation of RG is at stake and it has come at a time when the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.
Borkar has further alleged that it could be the handiwork of the Goa Congress party as the individuals involved in circulating the messages are actively supporting the Congress.
