Drivers and attendants employed to run the Balrath service which is a scheme run through schools for transportation of students have served a 15-day ultimatum to the State government to upwardly revise their remuneration failing which they have threatened to stop carrying out their duties.
The decision to serve the ultimatum was announced by Swati Kerkar, who heads the organisation to which the United Balrath Union is affiliated.
The union held a meeting at the Azad Maidan on Thursday where the decision was taken.
Apart from a hike in their perks on par with the stipulated wages for skilled workers of the State Government, the workers are demanding job security.
They have also made a case for payment for salary for all 12 months instead of just 10 months of the year as is the practice now. They have also sought benefits such as PF, ESI, insurance etc.
They claim they have been working at the same amount of remuneration fixed six years ago.
Balraths are used to ferry school students to and from their places of residence.
