Former MLA Pratap Gawas has stated that all 40 legislators in the State should unite and resign, if the centre is unable to protect Goa’s interests in the Mhadei river issue.
Addressing a news conference, Gawas said all legislators must keep their politics aside and be united to ensure that water from the Mhadei is not diverted to Karnataka.
“The central and state governments are expected to protect the interests of Goa. But the central government has taken Goa for granted and diverting water from the Mhadei will threaten the existence of Goa. If the Mhadei cannot be saved, then all 40 MLAs should show their strength and unit by resigning as legislators,” said Gawas.
He congratulated activists like Rajendra Kerkar and Nirmala Sawant for spearheading the campaign to save the Mhadei river.
Sunita Verekar said the Centre and State were expected to give a decision that would actually protect the interest of Goa.
“But that has not happened and Goa will have to pay a serious price and South Goa will also have to face a severe water crisis like the North.
