Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday suggested that the life and contribution of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita should be introduced in the school curriculum.
Saying that spirituality is the greatest contribution of India to the world, the governor exuded confidence that the day is not too far when the country will become a Vishwa Guru.
Speaking at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on the occasion of the 160th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the governor said that India was a rich country once upon a time with the country controlling sizeable trade. He, however, said that none of the kings went to conquer other countries.
“Before heading to Chicago, USA, Swami Vivekananda had come to Goa and stayed at Margao and visited the Rachol seminary,” he said.
Saying that spirituality is the greatest contribution of India to the world, the governor said India is the country of the youth, exuding confidence that the youth would make India a great country.
In his address, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that Swami Vivekananda believed that when there is a conflict between the mind and the heart, one should go by what the heart says. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, former MLA Damu Naik also spoke. Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar, Ravindra Bhavan Member Secretary Agnelo Fernandes were present.
