Colvale jail officials on Tuesday informed that a Colvale jail inmate Gajinder Singh (Chotu) was allegedly attacked by another prisoner causing injury on the right side of his face.
According to jail authorities, the incident took place after breakfast time at around 9 am on the stairs of the jail when one of the inmates Aziz Asif suddenly struck the other inmate Gajinder Singh with an object on the right side of his face.
Both the inmates are under trials.
“During the grappling on the staircase, the victim inmate sustained a cut injury on the right cheek. Both were immediately separated by an alert jail staff. The injury is not of serious nature,” a jail official informed.
The victim was sent to the North Goa District Hospital for treatment from where he was discharged and sent back to jail.
“We are yet to ascertain what object was used in the attack. The person who has caused the injury has been sent to an isolation block for one month as punishment as per prison rules,” said Venancio Furtado, Inspector General of Prisons.
No case has been registered with the police in the matter.
Incidentally, Gajinder Singh (Chotu) was arrested for his involvement in the attack at Souza Lobo restaurant two months ago and thereafter has been incarcerated in the Colvale jail.
