VASCO
Barely two weeks after losing his wife, former vice-chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Joaquim Colaco of Baina expired after a brief illness on Friday.
Colaco (77), an active social and political activist, was an ex-employee of Auto Service in Vasco and a well-known personality in Baina.
Sources said Colaco was admitted to a hospital in Baina for regular health issues and was discharged a day earlier.
"On Friday morning, he felt uneasy and was taken back to the same hospital where he breathed his last.”
“It is a double loss for the family, as Joaquim’s wife had breathed her last on April 3 and was buried on April 10. Colaco is survived by a son, 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren. Incidentally, the son was admitted to GMC for Covid on the same day Colaco passed away," said the source.
People in Vasco have mourned the loss of Joaquim Colaco.
"Friends and well-wishers are shocked over the demise of Colaco as he was active in social issues and Confraria activities at the Baina Church," said the source.
When contacted, Peter Andrade, the present president of the Confraria at the Baina Church, recalled Colaco as having served the Confraria for a long time.
“He toiled for the new school building and until his last breath," said Andrade.
