MMC employees finally get salaries after 2 months

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) staff and workers have finally received their salaries after a gap of two months

Sources in the MMC told The Goan that salaries were cleared on Friday.

"We got our salaries after two months and the salaries of January and February have been credited. We had to silently suffer and remain patient for two months and we hope that our salaries will be paid on time henceforth.”

“While we did receive our salaries, most of it was automatically deducted for instalments and some even had to pay late charges. We have been silent and continued to work for two months without salaries because there should be no inconvenience to people”.

“Had we to go on strike there would have been piles of garbage in the city. Despite plans to go on strike, we decided to work silently despite all the troubles so that people are happy," said the source.

The source said the MMC staff have appealed to authorities to ensure a permanent solution to the salary issue.

“We hope the new State government will do something positive in this direction, even if it means allotting of special funds in exchange of octroi collection that MMC would collect earlier,” said the source.
