SANGUEM: Acting on directives from the forest department, authorities at Netravali-Sanguem have maintained strict vigil to prevent entry of visitors to the waterfalls.
As a result, the Mainapi waterfall at Netravali, which earlier attracted hundreds of visitors, is now off-limits for visitors.
The ban on tourists visiting the waterfalls particularly within the wildlife sanctuary was enforced after two persons drowned at the Mainapi waterfall at Netravali.
A few visitors who made it to the village to visit the waterfalls were turned back from the main entry gate to the Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary.
Though there are other internal routes leading to the waterfalls in the village, visitors avoid these routes as they are considered treacherous and risky.
