The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) claims to have conducted the year’s largest drug haul, seizing a huge quantum valued at over Rs 1 crore.
A Russian national has been arrested on charges of allegedly smuggling drugs into the coastal State for distribution during parties along the coastal belt.
Information shared by Deputy Superintendent of Police (ANC) Nerlon Albuquerque stated that 2 kg high-quality hydroponic weed, 1.2 kg of Charas and 15 grams of LSD liquid, all of which are in commercial quantities, were confiscated from the trafficker in the raid at Morjim.
“We maintained discreet surveillance for the past several weeks and finally cracked down on the Russian and detained him. He was found in possession of the contraband which is worth over Rs 1 crore in the international market,” he said in a press statement issued on Friday.
He was subsequently arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and will be produced before the local court for police custody.
The ANC further mentioned that the Russian had brought this huge quantity of drugs with the intention to supply and distribute during the ongoing tourist season within the party circuit.
“We are also trying to find whether such a huge quantity of drugs has been procured through the dark net. We suspect that the payment may be done through cryptocurrency. A probe to ascertain his further linkages if any will also be under probe,” the ANC officer added, claiming it to be ANC's biggest seizure of the year.
