One more person has tested positive for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever in Sattari, with the number of positive cases rising to 8 since December-end.
Valpoi Health Officer Dr Gajanan Naik said eight cases of monkey fever have been reported by Manipal Centre for Virus Research, this season.
"All the patients are fine and discharged except for the one reported on Wednesday," he said.
Meanwhile, DMP tick repellant oil has reached Sattari taluka. Before handing over the oil, medical officer and nodal officer for monkey fever, Dr Abhijit Wadkar organised an advocacy programme for villagers of Budruk-Karmalli.
He said protective measure is the only way to prevent monkey fever. "Villagers can't stop going to the cashew plantation as it is their livelihood, but one can take protective measures like covering the entire body, applying DMP oil."
Dr Wadkar requested the villagers to take hot water baths, soak used clothes in warm water, to report to CHC Valpoi in case anyone gets a fever and call Valpoi Mamlatdar on 08322374090 if anyone finds a dead monkey.
