Will senior Health and FDA officials shed light on the long delay in commissioning of the South Goa office of the Food and Drugs Administration when they all descended in the city to observe World Food Safety Day on June 7?
The government had spent huge funds to set up a state-of-the-art FDA office for South Goa at the South Goa district Collectorate. In fact, while work on the project, executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) stands complete for over two years now, the office is yet to be formally commissioned.
When The Goan had contacted through WhatsApp a month ago to shed light on the status of the FDA South office, FDA Director Joyti Sardesai, she had said that the office will be opened soon.
When The Goan tried to reach out to the FDA Director on Sunday, there was, however, no response from her on the status of the office.
Senior officials of the Health, Civil Supplies and other departments, including FDA will be attending the programme on World Food Safety Day at the Ravindra Bhavan on Monday. Consumer rights activists hoped that the officials would shed light on the status of the FDA South office.
World Food Safety Day is observed on June 7 and State Consumer Rights Day on June 25 every year. To commemorate both these events, the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration (DFDA) in association with Ravindra Bhavan Margao and with support from GOACAN is organising an awareness programme on Food Safety and Consumer Rights & Responsibilities in South Goa District.
The objective of the awareness programme is to disseminate information about various food safety initiatives and the role of the campus based Consumer Welfare Clubs and village based Consumer Forums in implementing these initiatives.
Teachers & students from various high schools & higher secondary schools and lecturers from colleges from South Goa will participate in the programme.
