MARGAO
A female adult dolphin was washed ashore at the Benaulim beach on Sunday morning.
Traditional fishermen came across the carcass of the dolphin on the beach after it was washed ashore.
Fisherman Pele Fernandes informed that the female dolphin, believed to weighing around 300 kilograms, was lying on the Benaulim beach early morning. “It must have been washed ashore in the wee hours or last night,” he said.
Since there were no beach cleaning workers around, Pele and other local youth got the carcass disposed of on the beach. “We buried the dolphin on the beach. It was heavy since the dolphin was carrying it. Local youth and fishermen lent their hand to bury the carcass,” he added.
